3 Top Tips for Deadlifting
Charles McGivern (@ctm_training) is the current number 1 on our deadlift leaderboard with an incredible 372.5kg deadlift.
With such a huge lift and so much experience, we thought Charles would be the perfect person to ask for some top tips for deadlifting, and this is what he said:
Tip 1: Brace at the top! Take your breath and brace while stood up, instead of hunched. This allows for a better quality brace, which leads to more core stability and less back rounding!
Tip 2: Don’t hesitate- full intent and focus into every pull!! Do all your thinking a step back from the barbell. When you approach the bar, go through the motions and pull with absolute 100% commitment as if your life depended on it. This goes for every warm up as well as top sets. Over time this reduces inhibition and well as improves explosive power/rate of force development.
3. “Leg press the floor away”. Once you’re set up, Initiate the deadlift by imagining leg pressing the ground downwards. The creates a balance between pushing and pulling and makes more use of the quads, which improves your positioning throughout the movement.
We think that these tips are great and hope you fine them valuable. Do make sure to give them a go and submit your deadlifting videos to unlock our exclusive clothing range 'Deadlift Till I'm Dead' - aimed at incentivising you to hit your deadlift goals.
